Autism Assessment Team

Assessments for Autism are carried out by a specialist multi-disciplinary autism assessment team.  The team are highly experienced and passionate about supporting children and families with autism spectrum conditions. The team comprises of:

Dr Alex Edwards

Dr Alex Edwards, Clinical Psychologist

Alex specialises in the assessment and support of children with autism and their families.  She is trained in the ‘gold standard’ of autism assessments (the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2)) and in providing therapeutic input to support children with a diagnosis of autism and their families.  Prior to private practice, she worked within the NHS for a number of years.

Angela Sherry, Speech and Language Therapist

Angela is a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist with 18 years’ experience of supporting children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) across a range of settings including pre-school settings and nurseries, primary and secondary schools with specialised provisions, and in the home supporting young children and their families. Angela has had several years’ experience working within the NHS, in community and diagnostic settings, prior to moving to private practice. 

Angela is experienced in the delivery of a range of assessment tools to assess children’s speech, language and communication skills, and is trained in the assessment of autism using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2). Angela is also Hanen certified and is trained to deliver the More Than Words Programme for parents and carers of pre-school/young children who have autism/social communication difficulties.

Caroline Lavin

Caroline Lavin, Occupational Therapist

Caroline is a specialist Occupational Therapist with a number of years experience working across a range of settings for the NHS, within private work, and in a variety of schools.  She has always had a special interest in working with children with autism and currently works part-time for The National Autistic Society.  

The Autism Assessment Team also have close links with other Clinical Psychologists and Speech Therapists, Educational Psychologist, and Consultant Paediatricians for assessments where input from these clinicians is required.
